What a Safer Set looks like
Before the first day of shooting, all heads of department learn what discrimination, abuse of power and bullying mean on set, and how to model an open feedback culture. Responsibility lies with those who lead.
Everyone on set knows that criticism is welcome and whom they can turn to, including outside their own department: from the HODs through the departments and the cast to the extras. That way, problems are raised while they are still small, and resolved before the shooting schedule starts to wobble. And people are happy to come back for the next project.
Many production companies have signed the Respect Code Film. We translate it into processes that work under time pressure too: in pre-production, on the first day of shooting and throughout the entire shoot. Bookable individually or as a package.
